Description

Heavy equipment technicians are less fungible than auto technicians due to the huge amount of variety in the machinery compared to cars. This further exacerbates the ever-present training deficit seen among technicians in all industries. HE dealers cannot rely on well-trained and experienced technicians coming from other brands or dealers having the necessary training for their products. This session will address how brands ensure that technicians are properly trained on a wide range of equipment/machines and that they stay sharp when new technologies, whether the result of electrification or new emission standards, are released. To support the discussion, we will collect basic benchmark data on what training is both offered and required – hours of courses, in-person vs. online, training renewal requirements, etc. Additionally, we will collect and share stories on what tools OEMs are leveraging to supplement technician training – anything from diagnostic tools to AR/VR headsets.
